{"id":2137,"date":"2013-04-13T16:20:32","date_gmt":"2013-04-13T20:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.50.23\/wordpress\/blog\/?p=2137"},"modified":"2018-04-07T17:09:21","modified_gmt":"2018-04-07T21:09:21","slug":"grinder-project-completed-for-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forths.com\/index.php\/2013\/04\/13\/grinder-project-completed-for-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Grinder Project Completed for $11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend started like the previous one &#8211; lots of snow. \u00a0The project from the previous weekend was still in pieces, so I wanted to wrap that up. \u00a0After studying all the parts, I decided that I only needed to purchase new motor brushes, which are little rectangular slabs of carbon. \u00a0The bearings were in excellent condition, and the bevel gears only required new grease. \u00a0I grabbed what was left of the carbon brushes and headed to the Torch River Ace Hardware store.<\/p>\n<p>There were 4 boxes of carbon brushes of various sizes to pick from. \u00a0Not a single brush was an exact fit, so I decided to buy a pair that were slightly larger than what I needed. \u00a0These carbon brushes can be filed or ground down re-size them very easily. \u00a0The new brushes were $5.50 each, so my total investment in this tool repair was $11. \u00a0When I got home, I spent a few minutes at the grinding wheel to reduce the carbon brushes to the size needed, then reassembled the tool.<\/p>\n<p>The Hilti Angle Grinder went together much faster than I expected, but there really weren&#8217;t many parts. \u00a0When it was finished, I plugged it in and pulled the trigger. \u00a0The tool spun quickly, starting right up with a solid kick. \u00a0I put on a new cutting wheel and tried it again. \u00a0It really sounded good, and had a lot of power. \u00a0This tool will only see occasional use &#8211; how many times do you need an angle grinder?
