The weather was perfect.  When we arrived at the largest of the islands, we rented bicycles to explore the 4 mile route to Dún Aonghasa, a cliff-side fortress that dates back to roughly 500 BC.

The bicycle ride was nice, with cow pastures separated by stone walls on one side and the ocean on the other.

Today we will be exploring the shops and pubs of the town of Galway.

The cliffs reach a peak of 702 feet above the sea. Later that day, we arrived in the city of Galway, where we will be for the next 3 days before returning to Dublin.

]]> Dingle Peninsula Hike https://forths.com/dingle-peninsula-hike/ Mon, 22 Apr 2019 20:21:57 +0000 https://www.forths.com/?p=4955 On Monday we spent the day hiking along the coast of the Dingle Peninsula. The hike began on a trail just outside our B&B driveway, taking us along a rocky beach at low tide. Much of the hike was along beautiful cliffs overlooking the ocean.

After a few hours we encountered an old stone tower named Hussey’ Folly, which was built around 1845.

The hike ended at the peak of the cliff, which had a mound of rocks to mark the high point. Deb added a rock to the pile.

We returned along the same path then walked into Dingle for a meal and beer to celebrate our good day.

]]> Conor Pass https://forths.com/cliff-side-drive-to-dingle/ Mon, 22 Apr 2019 10:31:46 +0000 https://www.forths.com/?p=4924 Thankfully, the thick fog blocked our view of the sheer cliff at the edge of the road. Nicki took these videos after our 2-lane road alongside a steep cliff became one lane. Scary enough without having to drive on the wrong side of the road. I later learned that this was Conor Pass.

]]> Dublin, Ireland https://forths.com/dublin-ireland/ Sat, 20 Apr 2019 12:19:05 +0000 https://www.forths.com/?p=4905 We arrived on-time in Dublin this morning, although our luggage did not. The airline thinks the luggage may arrive tomorrow, but I’m sensing we’ll be buying some clothes today.

So far I haven’t hit anything while driving on the left side of the road. I’m still getting used to the driver sitting on the right.

So far, downtown Dublin has been fun. The streets are interesting, and we’ll be staying downtown tonight.

I’ll post updates when I find free time.
