The next phase of Nicki’s education has taken her from the pastoral settings of eastern Tennessee to the urban mix of downtown Memphis. I’ll miss Harrogate and New Tazewell, and the great motorcycle riding that Appalachia provided, but Memphis is full of interesting sites as well.
When we arrived in Memphis, we unpacked the moving truck in a brick-paved alley between buildings. It was 105 degrees, and humidity was quite high. Between the moving truck and the Yukon XL, we blocked traffic in the alley for much of the day, but somehow managed to get Nicki’s items into her 5th floor studio apartment without making much of a scene. She’ll be in Memphis for the next 12 months.
Nicki’s apartment is nestled into the heart of downtown Memphis, with the famous Peabody Hotel at one end of her alley and Main Street and its trolleys at the other. Everything is within walking distance, including AutoZone Park, home of the Memphis Redbirds, a minor league baseball affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
I’m sure this next year will go by very quickly, so enjoy Memphis, Nicki!
